The Knowledge on Diabetic Foot Care among the Adults in Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, Puducherry, India

Diabetic foot ulcers are sores on the feet that occur in 15% of diabetic patients a while during their lifetime. Incidence of diabetes and its complications are increased. Accordingly diabetic foot considered as a standard complication of diabetes. This study was undertaken to assess the knowledge of adults on diabetic foot care with a view to organize Information booklet on diabetic foot care. Descriptive Cross Sectional Design was adopted for the study. Adults who met the inclusion criteria were selected by purposive sampling technique. After obtaining informed consent, data was collected by using closed structured interview schedule among 50 adults admitted in Medical, Surgical, Ortho and CCU wards at PIMS, Puducherry. Average time spent for the interview was 20 - 30 minutes. Around 12-15 adults were interviewed by seven research assistants per day. Data was collected over a period of one week from 07.03.16 to 11.03.16. An information booklet on diabetic foot care was distributed to the entire study participants after data collection. The investigators didn’t face any difficulty during the data collection process. The data obtained were compiled for analysis and interpretation.
