Test-retest reliability of the hip abductor isometric endurance test in females with patellofemoral pain.

V

Background/Purpose: Because females with patellofemoral pain have major deficit in hip abduction performance, it seems important to assess hip abductor endurance. Studies reported good reliability of the hip abductor isometric endurance test in healthy females, but the results could not be generalized to females with patellofemoral pain. The goal of the present research was to evaluate the test-retest reliability of the hip abductor isometric endurance in females with patellofemoral pain. Methods: Eight females with patellofemoral pain, aged 19-36 years, were recruited. In two identical assessment sessions, the participants performed the hip abductor isometric endurance test. Results: The hip abductor isometric endurance test demonstrated good test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC)=0.81). The standard errors of measurement (SEM) and the minimal detectable changes (MDC) were, respectively, 13.9 and 38.5 seconds. Conclusion: The study reported good test-retest reliability of the hip abductor isometric endurance test in young females with PFP.
